We have created a child-centered environment that fuels the natural love of learning that is within each child.

One of our top priorities is creating an environment that is also welcoming to our parents and families as a whole.  Our school is a place where families and teachers merge in working with the children to provide an environment where every child is enriched, nurtured, and cherished.

“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”

-Maria Montessori

Michelle Lyman, Director
Carus Montessori School, Oregon City

Michelle Lyman started serving the Carus community in 2007 with the opening of her own in-home childcare program.  Michelle and Herb after 27yrs of marriage are parents to 7 children, and 4 grandchildren.  Together they have owned and operated a successful commercial flooring company for over 25yrs.  Michelle is dedicated to hard work and extending her services to help others.  Michelle has created a beautiful child-centered home in the heart of the Carus community.  The children who have attended her program have found a place of learning and fun in a welcoming, enriching environment that has been a home away from home.

In 2013, Michelle decided to move her program into a more focused educational school program, and the Montessori model aligns with her personal philosophy on education.  Michelle’s heart is deeply rooted in providing a program that cherishes, nurtures, and enriches every child in her school.  At Carus Montessori School the love of discovery is at the heart of learning.  A child who is cherished and nurtured is excited to discover the world around them and through Michelle’s concrete dedication; Carus Montessori School provides this solid foundation for a life of learning.

Michelle is also dedicated to ongoing professional development and is in the process of obtaining her certification for meeting the standards of knowledge for step 7 of the Oregon Registry:  Pathways to Professional Recognition in Childhood Care and Education.

Joycee Basan, Infant Toddler Guide

Joycee has been an integral part of the Pleasant Valley Springs community since 2010.  She is very dedicated and enthusiastic in her work with the children.  Joycee has 3 beautiful children of her own who all attended a Montessori school in the Philippines.  Joycee has found her home in the Montessori way and has created a beautiful, child-centered Infant/Toddler environment for our school, and this child-sized space has been joyfully welcomed by our toddlers!  Joycee has a deep love for children and enjoys her days of teaching, laughing and learning alongside her students.  Loving her students as her own happens naturally for Joycee.

Joycee is also dedicated to ongoing professional development and is enjoying all she is learning in her Montessori training with The Center for Guided Montessori Studies.  She considers this opportunity with Pleasant Valley Springs as a great privilege to be able to learn through the process of discovery with her students.
